Abstract

This report examined the cases of dam-induced forced migration and drought induced migration in order to understand the role of environmental factors and changes in inducing migration. The two cases were that of the construction of Ataturk Dam in the north of Urfa, flooding villages and districts of Urfa, Adiyaman and Diyarbakir. The second case represents a different experience, whereby families started migrating away from Suruç because of serious levels of drought. Migrants could choose to be resettled by the state or received the confiscation compensation.
