Abstract
Migration and mobility are increasingly recognised as a potential adaptation response to environmental change. The wide diversity of destinations, duration of stay and composition of flows call for a more detailed understanding of how non-environmental drivers shape mobility patterns. Using a livelihoods approach, this paper reviews the key findings of four quantitative case studies in Burkina Faso, Ecuador, Ghana and Nepal to explore what can be inferred on future migration trends linked to the impacts of climate change, and the main implications for policy.
